Traditional metal braces are the most common option for orthodontic treatment. They consist of metal wires, brackets, ligatures, bands, and elastics. We will begin by bonding a metal bracket to each one of your teeth. These brackets act as an anchor for the other components to exert the pressure necessary to move your teeth. Archwires will then be threaded through the brackets and held in place by the elastic tie ligatures (you can pick from over 25 colors!). The archwire puts constant pressure on your teeth which makes them move into the desired place. These archwires are replaced every 6-8 weeks to ensure a gradual and healthy movement of your teeth.
Depending on your case, you might need to wear elastic bands to correct an underbite or overbite. These bands attach to specialized brackets and can be removed during meals and for brushing.
