Discover a Healthier Smile with Braces

Braces offer benefits beyond straightening teeth. Your dentist may recommend them to close gaps, improve your bite, or relieve that persistent jaw pain. While braces can correct a variety of dental issues, the most exciting results include a boost in self-confidence and long-term oral health.

Metal or Ceramic: Which is Right for You

The choice between metal and ceramic braces often comes down to personal preference, but there are some benefits to each. While still very affordable at Risas Dental, ceramic braces are a bit more expensive than metal, but they’re also slightly more comfortable and much less noticeable. On the otherhand, metal braces are more cost effective and durable, and they often result in shorter treatment times. They’re more noticeable, but many kids enjoy personalizing them with colorful elastics.

Easy-Maintenance Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are the most common and budget-friendly choice for the entire family. If you choose durable metal braces, our friendly orthodontists will use stainless steel brackets, metal wires, and elastic ties to gently shift your teeth over time. Kids and teens also have the option to personalize their metal braces with elastic ties in 25 different colors.

Comfortable Clear Ceramic Braces

We often recommend ceramic braces to adults looking for more subtle ways to enhance their smile. Ceramic braces work the same way metal braces do, but the brackets are made with a smooth, clear or tooth-colored material. These less noticeable braces cost a little more than metal, and they require some extra care.

FAQs Braces

Braces FAQs

Commonly asked questions on braces.
Most patients wear their braces for approximately 18 to 24 months, but the exact time period depends on your teeth and unique dental needs. Your orthodontist will be able to give you a more concrete timeline.
You may have some discomfort when you first get braces, but it won’t stop you from participating in most of your daily activities. If you play a woodwind or brass instrument, it may require an adjustment period as the braces themselves may impact how you play. If you participate in a contact sport, you may need to use a mouthguard to protect your teeth.
A good rule is to avoid all foods that are sticky, chewy, or crunchy. Some good examples of foods you shouldn’t eat include popcorn, gum, lollipops, gummy bears, or beef jerky. We recommend eating softer foods as they’re gentler on braces.
Braces can trap bits of food and plaque by your teeth, so it’s important to brush your teeth twice a day and use floss threaders or orthodontic floss to reach between the teeth and under the wires. You will be coming into the office regularly for adjustments, but don’t forget to schedule your regular dental checkups.
